Cable duct baseboards: What are the advantages of a cable duct baseboard?

1. Baseboards with cable channel protect the wall including cables from scrubbers, furniture legs and vacuum cleaners and - depending on the model of the cable channel baseboard - from water.

2. By allowing cables to be hidden behind these baseboards, the visual effect is doubled. On the one hand, cable channel skirting generally have a decorative effect, and on the other hand, they hide unsightly cables that greatly disrupt the aesthetics of the room.

3. Uneven and messy transitions between the floor and the wall disappear thanks to cable channel skirting.

In addition, some pets tend to chew on them, which can also result in monetary consequences and animal suffering. A skirting board with cable channel reliably protects against this risk.

Prices for skirting boards with cable channel, as for regular skirting boards, depend largely on the particular model. Thus, cable channel skirting boards are already available for less than 10 euros. Variants of the baseboards with cable channel made of solid wood are of course more expensive here. The variety of offers is immense, which is why the right baseboard model can be found for every budget.

Cable duct baseboards: What is there to consider?

Cable channel skirting boards are available in numerous versions and design variants. Depending on the floor, available budget, use of space and number of cables to be hidden, the right skirting can be ordered. Here are a few tips:

- Narrow, small baseboards with cable channels are ideal if only very few, thin cables are to be hidden.

- If thick cables or many cables need to disappear behind the baseboards with cable channel, correspondingly larger versions of this baseboard model are appropriate.

- If the walls have slightly uneven surfaces, baseboards cable channel made of plastic prove to be very useful. Their material is slightly pliable and therefore flexible, which is why it can perfectly hug the wall.

- If the skirting board with cable channel needs to be slightly modified for plugs such as a USB port, this can be done particularly easily with plastic skirting boards. Desired recesses can be simply cut out where they are required.

- Baseboards with cable ducts made of plastic are ideal for bathrooms and kitchens because they are easy to clean and water-resistant.

- Baseboards with cable channel made of real wood, MDF or cork are fantastic to combine with wooden floors.

- In purist interiors, metal skirting boards with cable channel fit in particularly well.

- Very popular are white baseboards with cable channel, which provide a coherent finish to tiled floors, parquet and laminate.

Installing baseboard with cable channel: How to do it?

Skirting boards with a cable channel feature a permanently mounted strip, which is then snapped onto the actual skirting board. Depending on your wishes and needs, the support strip or support elements can be nailed, glued or screwed or fastened with clips. What is the right way depends on the skirting, the wall and personal skill.
Installation of baseboards with cable management is so simple that a costly craftsman is not required. The course of the support strip is drawn on the wall and the installation of the moldings can start.

Those who glue skirting boards with cable channel, should wait until the glue for the support strips has hardened, until the clipping of the skirting boards. Otherwise, the best possible adhesive force can not be achieved, which may cause the carriers to detach from the wall.

The clip systems may be a little more time-consuming to install initially, but in return they are child's play to detach if necessary. This can be very useful, especially for cable channel strips, as every now and then cables or technical devices need to be replaced.

Cable channel strips: Are there special shapes and sizes?

As with other baseboards, skirting boards with cable channel are available in different sizes and shapes. Thus, they differ in terms of height, width, profile and relief. Skirting boards with profile allow to increase the distance from the wall. Often, this also makes it possible to hide a particularly large number or particularly thick cables behind them. Narrower baseboards are recommended for smaller rooms, provided that only thin or fewer cables are to be hidden behind them there. It is important to think carefully in advance about how wide and high the recesses in the baseboard for the cables need to be in order to find the right model.
