What are corner towers and skirting corners anyway?

When skirting boards are cut to the dimensions of the room, corners always turn out to be particularly difficult. But not only the corners of the room become a challenge, but also transitions to doors or other interruptions pose a challenge in the attachment and appearance of skirting boards. With a corner tower, this problem can be cleverly avoided. Corner towers and corners for baseboards are always slightly higher than the actual baseboard. This allows for even easier installation and sets beautiful accents in the room. The rule here is that corner towers should be an average of 5 mm higher than the desired baseboard. Also, when buying corner towers, it is highly recommended to make sure that they are made of the same material and have been similarly pre-treated - i.e. with an identical paint finish, similar foiling or the same pre-treatment (e.g. in the case of skirting boards and corner towers made of wood that have been oiled in advance). In this way, you ensure a coherent overall appearance in the room and give it an appealing look.

Which corner tower matches my corner moldings?

The question of which skirting board finish is suitable for the baseboard can hardly be answered in a blanket manner. After all, there are numerous variants here. From cut square timbers to specially ground corner towers, which have a similar profile to the baseboard itself, everything is available in stores. You can also choose between lacquered, sanded, oiled and foiled corner towers. The differences should be explained in more detail:

  • Foiled corner towers: the foiled corner towers have been covered with a colorful film, which not only provides additional protection, but also has a strong visual impact. Foiled corner towers are the ideal choice for foiled baseboards in particular, as they have similarly low subsequent maintenance requirements and are easy to clean.
  • Ground corner towers: Ground corner towers have a particularly smooth ground surface and are therefore practical and universally applicable. This form of corner block may require some maintenance afterwards, also depending on the premises in which this plinth finish is used.
  • Lacquered corner doors: here, too, you benefit from very little maintenance, since the lacquer finish already ensures that the wood or MDF is well protected. In addition, a wide range of colors is possible with lacquered corner towers - for example, the ideal complement for white skirting boards or black skirting boards.
  • Oiled corner towers: want a natural baseboard finish that showcases the fine grain of the wood and peace of mind from additional maintenance for years to come? Then oiled corner towers are also a great choice. The pre-treatment allows you to clean the corner moldings quite easily and have hardly any additional effort.

What materials are our corner towers available in?

We know how important it is to have a uniform image in your premises. That's why we rely on natural materials for our corner towers just as we do for our skirting boards. Depending on your budget, you can get our corner towers in the inexpensive version made of MDF, which can of course be ideally combined with MDF skirting boards. Here, too, you have the choice between lacquered or foiled MDF corner towers. Alternatively, you can reach for skirting corner towers made of pure wood. Here, just as with our skirting boards, you can choose from three different variants: Oak wood corner towers, Beech wood corner towers and Spruce wood corner towers. We recommend our customers to choose the same material as used for the skirting board. Alternatively, of course, you have the option of setting particularly beautiful accents with the corner towers and therefore choosing a lighter or darker shade - or even a painted variant in black or white, which is particularly eye-catching.

What is the advantage of corner towers?

As already mentioned, there are two ways to attractively attach skirting boards. The first variant is called "miter sawing". In this case, the edges of the skirting boards in the corners are cut so that they can be combined seamlessly. However, this requires millimeter precision work to prevent gaps or protruding skirting boards. The necessary machines are also only available in a few private households. Miter sawing is best done with a special miter saw, where the required angle can be preset. However, fret saws or foxtails can also be used to miter cut skirting boards - provided the technical know-how is available.

Since miter cutting is difficult, we therefore recommend the simpler variant, in which the corners are provided with a corner tower. The corner tower can also be used for strip ends, for example at the edge to the door frame. You simply attach it to the desired place and then you can seamlessly attach the skirting board to it. Although the skirting board must also be cut to the exact length, you save yourself the tedious work of miter cutting. The corner tower for skirting boards is also called a connector due to its most common use.

Color accents or customized design - make the right choice for your corner tower

With a corner tower, you have a wonderful opportunity to provide beautiful accents in your premises. That's why a wide selection is especially important to us here. The classic corner tower is made from a single piece of wood or MDF board. We use the same material that we use for the production of our skirting boards. This way, you can be sure to benefit from a color-coordinated overall result. Alternatively, you have the option of setting special accents. You have decided on a white skirting board? With a black corner tower, you will bring a wonderful ambience to your premises. Alternatively, of course, you can complement a black baseboard with white corner towers. We also have skirting corners for classic wooden skirting boards in our assortment. Simply choose from our large assortment and decide on a skirting that suits your design wishes.
